Design and build the casing for the ARES guided descent system
The UW Society for Advanced Rocket Propulsion (SARP) is a student led group that builds rockets for national competitions. For our next generation of rockets, we have designed a new guided descent system. The new design required larger and heavier components be secured within the limited space of the rocket nosecone.
I was responsible for designing the system's casing. To optimize for space and ease of manufacturing, I created many CAD models of different designs and consulted with several different teams to determine which design best met the requirements.
Once a design had been chosen, I worked with other team members to 3D print a prototype. Using the prototype, we identified areas that could be improved and I updated the design.
